Description

Now in Technicolor!

And here we have a sample of the later, imperial-era numenorean armament, following from my concept for numeorean "golden age" armor, Whereas that piece was more late-classical greek in inspiration, for this one I wanted to incorporate many of the same elements, but evolved into a more advanced, streamlined and regimented look, like the roman loricas, and incorporating more naked steel. a long while back, I'd done a quick sketch of Numenorean plate armor (which sadly has dissapeared) that was basically a full plate harness, sculpted like the finest gothic suits, but with this aquatic, atlantian bent to it, all spirals and fin shapes: I tried to incorporate much of that (or as much of it as I could remember) into this one while keeping it an only partial plate harness (tolkien doesnt really seem to favor plate armor)

The greek-style cuirasse we see in the golden age armor has carried over to this one, but the scale sides have been replaced by chainmail, and the hard-woven linen front and back by sculpted steel. The shins, elbows and upper arms are now armored, and the shoes and cloak heavier, as an adjustment to more serious campaigns in middle-earth. the scale skirt has remained constant.

I'm quite pleased with this late-period karma as more sleek and functional than it's more decorative predescessor, while still striking a weirdly elegant, cephalopod-like profile (moreso that the earlier one actually, i think). I dont think all the design elements work with eachother; Those greek/roman style shoulder guards were carried over from the hellenistic "golden age" design, but looking at it now I think I should have gone for more sculpted, 'naked steel' pauldrons (which were my initial impulse, and would have fit better with the the overall harness I think)

and that's a leopard skin tied around his shoulders, a popular item among legionnaires in Harad.

Probably not your concern as a fantasy designer, but this armour would be detramental in an actual fighting scenario.
The breastplate is... well, it isn't a breastplate, it's more like an oversized cuirass. You wouldn't be able to bend over in that, as it's a solid one piece. Actual plate armour is segmented, where the upper plate covers your breast, and the second your stomach, and the lower part is capable of sliding upwards on the other one. It's especially necessary if these guys are spearmen, as they need to bend into the thrusts.
Another problem is the elbow guards shape: It wouldn't protect the elbows if the guy flexes his arm more than about 60°, which is not enough for not just a spearman, but any kind of soldier on the field.
The shoulderplates are A) kind of unnecessary in this amount, as there is a scalemail under it (which is also unnecessary, a simple chainmail would be enough, but given that they wear leopard skin, I presume these guys are just like winged hussars), and B) Are not the right shape. The upper one should be way bigger, like twice as much, and the other two should be way outwards, covering more surface.
The neckguard also seems off. I don't see it to be a seperate piece, like a gorget, and it also seems like that it goes all around the neck, even backwards, and seems to cover the whole thing in one plate. If this is the case, then I'm not sure how they are meant to be put on, or taken down, and this much steel is also unnecessary, as the warrior will face enemies that are in front of himself, and they are also too high, limiting how much the head can be moved.
The skirt has too many "attachments". The scalemail should be enough, the other metallic bits are just unnecessary weight. There is also seems to be a "slit" between, that is only protected by that green, possibly woolen thingy. That is a serious weak point, and it would probably hurt the morale of the soldier, as his "manliness" is at danger. Just look at roman armour: They have a thing called Cingulum, which's sole purpose is to protect the soldiers dingaling. Later medieval armour is also extended to protect the groin area, and plate armor should have faulds and tassets for that purpose.
Lastly, that helmet is just crap as is. Unnecessary weight in back of head, it doesn't follows the head's shape, and I don't see any elevation for the inner straps, that are supposed to seperate the head from the helmet, so blows don't transfer energy directly. Also, it's an open helmet, while the whole looks of the armor gives off the feeling that this should be elite's possession, who should be able to get more protection. A closed helmet, preferably one that follows the head, and gives a bit of space, would be more appropriate.

Also, give the poor guy a gauntlet. His fingers will be cut off!
